چکیده
The Italian building heritage is aged and inadequate to the high-performance levels required nowadays in terms of energy efficiency seismic response. Innovative techniques are generating a strong interest, especially multi-level approaches solution optimizations. Among these, Nested Buildings, an integrated intervention approach which preserves external existing structure provides new structural system inside, aim at improving both performances. research presented hereinafter focuses on strengthening unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings with cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, thanks their lightweight, high stiffness, good hygrothermal characteristics. improvement performance was investigated through 2D-model analyzed dynamic regime, showed general decreasing overall thermal transmittance for retrofitted configurations. Then, evaluate behavior coupled system, parametric linear static analysis implemented in-plane out-of-plane directions, considering various types connector spacings. Results improve response walls, thus validating possible applications URM buildings, where local overturning mechanisms prevented by either sufficient construction details or specific solutions.

متن کاملUncertainty in Seismic Capacity of Masonry Buildings
Seismic assessment of masonry structures is plagued by both inherent randomness and model uncertainty. The former is referred to as aleatory uncertainty, the latter as epistemic uncertainty because it depends on the knowledge level. Pioneering studies on reinforced concrete buildings have revealed a significant influence of modeling parameters on seismic vulnerability. However, confidence in me...
متن کاملSimplified indexes for the seismic vulnerability of ancient masonry buildings
This paper presents a contribution for the safety assessment of historical masonry buildings under seismic loading. Three different simplified safety indexes (in-plan area ratio, area to weight ratio and base shear ratio) are analyzed, taking into account a large sample of fifty-eight Portuguese churches. The sample of building has been organized according to the seismic zonation, from high to ...
متن کاملEfficiency of strengthening techniques assessed for existing masonry buildings
The Azores archipelago is a zone with a vast cultural heritage, presenting a building stock mainly constructed in traditional stone masonry. It is known that this type of construction exhibits poor behaviour under seismic excitations; however it is extensively used in seismic prone areas, such as this case. The 9th of July of 1998 earthquake was the last seismic event in the islands, leaving ma...
متن کاملDissipative Bracing-Based Seismic Retrofit of R/C School Buildings
A dissipative bracing system incorporating pressurized fluid viscous spring-dampers has been studied for many years by the authors as an alternative seismic protection strategy for new and existing frame structures. As a concluding stage of this activity, a set of demonstrative case studies was examined to illustrate the enhancement of seismic performance and the economic advantages guaranteed ...
